Helen Hasson set to carry the Olympic Torch in Ballykelly

Helen Hasson, 38 from Derry has been chosen as one of the Olympic Torch Bearers for the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Route through Northern Ireland which will take place from 3rd June to 7th June.

The flame will arrive in Belfast on 3rd June 2012, with relay runners carrying it to more than 60 towns and villages as well as a number of beauty spots.

Torch-bearers will carry the flame over the famous Carrick-a-rede rope bridge and it will also cross Lough Neagh and the River Bann.

Helen was successfully nominated due to her ongoing and active participation in Sportability, Special Olympics and her love of the Olympics.   Helen will carry the Olympic Torch on 4th June in Ballykelly, Derry.

Helen has been with the Praxis Care Cookie Company in Derry for over 12 years. She has gained skills in cooking, baking and customer service. Helen has also gained qualifications through her placement including an NVQ Level 1 in Catering as well as also attending the Northern West Regional College.

Helen Hasson says:

“I am excited and very happy to have this great opportunity.  My family and friends are also excited about this for me and are looking forward to seeing me carrying the torch.

This will be an achievement of a lifetime and should be a great day out. It will also be great to get the nice tracksuit which I can keep to remind me of when I carry the torch. I can’t wait! It should be good fun. I would like to thank my friends Joy and Anna for nominating me to do this it was very kind of them.”
