Praxis Care run a Dispersed Independent Support and Housing (DISH) service providing support and accommodation for 16 service users, in addition we have 22 ongoing volunteer befriending matches.

Our office accommodation (along with 3 flats onsite) are owned by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive ( NIHE) , they approached us to inform us that they had funding available to redevelop the unused, overgrown garden space.

Work commenced on a therapy garden and this was officially unveiled at the opening on 1st May.

In addition to the funding provided by NIHE the scheme sourced a small grant of £1,000 from Cookstown and Western Shores Area network (CWSAN), supported by the Health Promotion Agency for garden equipment, bulbs etc.

Following media coverage of this event in local papers we were approached by a production company, Northern Lights, to discuss the possibility of the garden featuring within the show.

Presenter Patricia Devlin visited the garden and a piece was filmed, including interviews with Leanne McIlvenny (Praxis Care Project Manager Magherafelt DISH), Desmond Devlin (Praxis Care service user), Geraldine Young (Praxis Care service user), Denise Doherty (CWSAN) and Declan McAllister (Housing Manager – NIHE).
