Praxis Care says ‘Thank you’ to Volunteers

Volunteers add value, they enhance the work of our staff, they make a difference to the lives of service users, they bring their skills, time and knowledge and ultimately are a valuable part of the service which Praxis Care provides.

On Wednesday 29th May volunteers, service users, friends and staff gathered at the Templeton Hotel, Templepatrick to celebrate, recognise and say thank you for the many volunteer hours invested into the organisation.  There are approximately 120 volunteers involved with Befriending, another 40 who help regularly at schemes, the Board members and then a large group of people who help with fundraising and other one off events.

On average our volunteers are involved for 2 – 3 hours each week so with over 160 volunteers with Praxis Care that equals approximately 480 hours each week or over 24,960 hours each year!  No-one can do everything but we can all do something!

Many volunteers have been involved with the work for a long time, one volunteer for 25 years!  The following volunteers all received long service awards:

5 Year Award

Jacqueline Crossley – Belfast Carers Advocacy

Bob Whan – North Down and Ards

Bernadette Donaghy – Magherafelt

Anna McCrea – Magherafelt

Emma Carter – Antrim Young People

Gavin Hyndman – Antrim Young People

John Hanna – Secret Garden, Hillsborough

Thomas Palmer – Secret Garden, Hillsborough

10 Year Award

Marina Kerlin – Antrim Young People

Caroline Orr – Antrim Young People

Sarah Greer – Antrim Young People

Peter Lafferty – Derry Cookie Company

Nan Elliot – Antrim

20 Year Award

Carmen Broad – Derry

Gerald McVeigh – Antrim

25 Year Award

Geraldine McKeever – Derry

Well done and thank you to each volunteer receiving a long service award as well as all the others who give up their time throughout the year.

The Long Service Awards were presented by our guest speaker for the event Nuala McKeever along with Nevin Ringland, Chief Executive Officer of Praxis Care.

Three volunteers shared their stories at the event.  Rhona who is a befriending volunteer with Foyle Cookie Company, Claire who is an activities volunteer in Coleraine and Glenys who is a volunteer tutor with the Moving Up Project.  Hearing the stories of volunteers adds a sense of colour and brings the diversity of volunteering opportunities to the attention of all.

Praxis Care relies on the support of volunteers, if you would like to find out more about volunteer opportunities please get in touch with Catherine Little, Praxis Care Volunteer Co-ordinator on 028 9072 7161 or email catherinelittle@praxiscare.org.uk
