The Melton Project benefits from the Trumpton Fire Service Charity

Every Christmas in Melton Mowbray, the local Fire Service decorate an emergency response vehicle as a sleigh with a Santa sat in the top and drive around the streets of the town, collecting money from residents. After Christmas, requests for a share of this money are invited from groups, charities and organisations which serve our community.

The Melton Project submitted a request for a LCD TV/DVD combi which could be placed in one of the bedrooms used by our Young People. Trumpton were so generous this year that they offered to purchase not one, but two TV/DVDs for us which were officially presented to us at their annual Presentation Evening held at the Conservative Club here in Melton Mowbray.

Two members of staff went along with Service User Sahil Patel and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The presentation was made first and then the party began with a buffet and disco. Sahil had a great evening and was so popular with the event organisers, that he was invited to go to the Fire Station the following day.

Sahil arrived promptly at 11am when he was provided with a helmet and jacket to wear as he was shown around the Fire Station and more importantly, a Fire Engine itself. He was allowed to pull out the hose reel and handle the specialist cutting equipment carried on the fire engine. Sahil had a brilliant time and couldn’t wait to phone home and tell his dad all about it!
