On Monday 28th January Praxis Care staff and volunteers hope to finish off a garden project at Richmond Hall in Eden Terrace. Work has been ongoing over the last few months to clear the area and start work to create raised beds and an outside area where Service Users can develop gardening and other skills.
Foyle Cookie Company in Richmond Hall is a Praxis Care Day Care service for adults with learning disabilities. As part of the Moving Up Project these Service Users, who come from across the city of Derry, are enhancing their training and employment opportunities by participating in accredited training programmes in Horticulture, Catering and IT (Information Technology). Getting the garden area finished will mean that everyone will be ready to plant lots of fruit and vegetables in the spring time as well as have an outdoor space to enjoy any sunshine which comes our way! Nicola Cooke Moving Up Facilitator from Praxis Care says “any help will be greatly appreciated, we will be digging, clearing rubbish, building flower beds, laying slabs – something for everyone”.
Everyone is welcome to come along and help out as we finish off the Garden. No gardening experience is necessary but anyone with joinery or landscaping skills would be particularly useful to the team on the day.
If you are interested in getting involved in our Garden Project on Monday 28th January please get in touch with Catherine, Volunteer Co-ordinator, on 028 9023 4555.
