Foyle Project – Richmond Hall trip to Ashbrook Garden Centre

On the 14th July 2011, the Service Users from the Age Appropriate Day Care and ‘The Cookie Company’ enjoyed a wonderful day out at Ashbrook Garden Centre, which is linked with the New Horizons project for adults with Learning Disabilities.

We were given a guided tour around the Garden Centre and the Service Users got a chance to see close up the different types of plants and flowers that are grown in the Garden Centre. The Service Users got a special treat when they were taken to see the chickens and were given the chance to feed them, which everyone enjoyed.

After a welcome break of tea, coffee, juice and biscuits, the Service Users got a chance to get their hands dirty planting flowers. Each service user got to plant their own flower in lovely clay pots, and as a surprise each service user got to take their own flower home to care for.

Special thanks to George and his staff, who showed everyone great hospitality and we agreed it was a great day out. We left to go home with shouts from the Service Users of “when can we go back?”!
