Edwin Poots MLA Minister of the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety recently visited two Praxis Care projects; St. Paul’s Court, Lisburn and the Secret Garden, Hillsborough.
St. Paul’s Court, built by Trinity Housing Association, is a facility that offers housing and support to meet the needs of older people with dementia who can no longer live in their current accommodation. A number of units allow for the spouse or other family members to live with the elderly person.
The Secret Garden is a work skills programme based at the original Victorian walled garden belonging to Hillsborough Castle. The Secret Garden provides work opportunities in a coffee shop and horticultural / plant nursery project for people with learning disabilities. The coffee shop and plant nursery are open to the general public 6 days per week.
Health Minister, Mr Poots says:
“My Department is very aware of the valuable contribution made by the independent sector to the health and well being of the people of Northern Ireland.
I have been very impressed by the enthusiasm, professionalism and dedication shown by all those people that I have met today, both staff and trainees alike”.
Nevin Ringland (Founder & Chief Executive, Praxis Care) says:
“I am delighted that Minister Poots has taken the time out of his busy schedule to visit two Praxis Care projects.
Over the last 30 years Praxis Care has worked closely with Health and Social Care Trusts to ensure that it is providing quality service provision that meets the needs of service users.
Even with retraction in public spending Praxis Care is determined to rise to the challenge of reshaping services to give value for money while continuing to ensure the quality services are maintained and improved”
