Praxis Care Coleraine and Magherafelt Domiciliary services undertook a few events to mark Mental Health Awareness Week, including hosting a coffee morning network event in the Coleraine West Bann service.
The event well attended event with representatives from a range of both statutory and voluntary organisations.
There was the opportunity for individuals to share information as to the range of services available within the local area and to develop partnership working.
Leanne McIlvenny, Manager, Coleraine and Magherafelt Domiciliary Services says:
“Staff discussed the Mental Health Foundation ‘Surviving or thriving? The state of the UK’s mental health’ and shared tips on nourishing wellbeing.
Following this 7 Praxis Care staff members headed into Coleraine town to conduct a small piece of research, seeking individuals perception on what mental health is, what they would do if someone disclosed that they were experiencing a mental health issue and finally seeking feedback on suggestions for tips on maintaining good mental health.
During the time in the town staff distributed leaflets from Public Health Agency, ‘Take 5 steps to wellbeing’ and ‘Steps to deal with stress’.
We aim to compile the findings from this research and hope that we may be able to provide some further guidance/information to individuals to reduce stigma and encourage everyone to thrive in their lives.”
