Praxis Care service user designs new menu for Dunboyne Cafe
Praxis Care, a leading charity providing support for adults with intellectual disabilities in Ireland has teamed up with a local Dunboyne cafe “Cafe Thirteen” to design their new menu.
Maria Whelan Praxis Care The Hub, (Dunboyne) Temporary Manager says:
“As part of the Praxis Care The Hub’s community inclusion programme one of our service users adapted a cafe menu from a local cafe “Cafe Thirteen” into pictorial format. This menu is now accessible for others using the cafe and will enable people with intellectual disabilities and/or communication difficulties to be independent in choosing and ordering their own food and drink choices. This has been a huge achievement for our service user and will be of great benefit to her local community. Our aim is to support adults with intellectual disabilities in developing skills required to be as independent as possible which will enable them to develop positive social roles. “
‘The Hub’ aims to enable school leavers with complex needs to live within a safe and nurturing community environment which promotes options and choices, underpinned by a person-centred, needs led approach.
Praxis Care strives to empower adults and children with mental ill health and intellectual disabilities to enjoy every day living, irrespective of the complexity of their needs.
