Dan Greaves, Paralympian medal winner opens new Praxis care short breaks service for disabled children in Glenfield, Leicestershire.
Leicestershire’s own Paralyimpian, Dan Greaves has officially opened the new Praxis Care short breaks service in Glenfield on June 26th.
The short breaks service provides an essential service to children and young people who have a learning disability and complex needs and provides essential support to their families.
Praxis Care has provided this support for over 10 years to the children and families of Leicestershire and has now invested in excess of half a million pounds in a new, purpose built centre to improve the facilities offered. The Melton Project has relocated from its former premises in Dalby road, Melton Mowbray to Station road, Glenfield. The premises in Melton Mowbray are due for a complete renovation, to provide enhanced facilities and to improve and build upon the excellent service given to the children and young people of Leicestershire.
Ruth Harrison; Manager said: “Our services deliver high quality, overnight short breaks with the ethos that it should benefit both the young people and their families/carers. Every child accessing the Glenfield & Melton Projects has an individualised support plan, identifying their needs, their likes and dislikes and demonstrates desired outcomes. Person centred support plans and risk assessments are created in partnership with the young person, their family, school, other Nurses and social workers. It is important that as well as providing a safe place for people to be they must also be able to have fun and enjoy their stays.”
Nevin Ringland; Chief executive of Praxis Care, said: “ I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Praxis Care team for delivering a service of the highest quality, our new building will allow us to build upon our many strengths locally and we look forward to continuing our work here in the future.
