Praxis Care Staff Awards

Praxis Care held its third annual Staff Awards Ceremony in The Culloden Hotel on 21 May 2010.

On arrival, guests enjoyed a breakfast reception while being entertained by magician Trevor Price and pianist Ruth McClenaghan before Dr Oliver Shanks opened the official proceedings on behalf of the Praxis Care Board.

MC Pauline Paterson, Assistant Director for Quality and Governance welcomed special guests and staff and introduced Guest Speaker, NI Ombudsman Tom Frawley CBE, who delivered an inspiring and entertaining speech before presenting awards to staff for Long Service, Training, Individual and Scheme / Department Awards.

Three special awards were also presented.

  • Mr Frank McConnell presented the Praxis Care Research Award in memory of Maria McConnell to Dr Joanne Hewitt.
  • Mrs Margaret Cassidy presented the Pat Cassidy Award for the staff member who has demonstrated leadership in delivering a service to Sonia Mawhinney and Will Bassett.
  • Chief Executive Nevin Ringland presented the Dr Etta Eid-Jennings Prize for the staff member who has demonstrated commitment over and above the call of duty to Rosaleen Hannon.

After lunch, Pauline Paterson introduced the Conlig Workskills Drama Group who performed their play “The Little People of Clandeboye Forest” which received a standing ovation from the audience.

Pauline then handed over to May McFettridge, who entertained the audience while hosting “Praxis Has Talent” where brave staff members performed in front of the audience of 250 people and a judging panel that would rival Simon Cowell, Louise Walsh and Cheryl Cole.

All performances were greeted with enthusiasm by the audience and following voting by the audience, the panel decided on the following prize winners.

1st      Krystle Black with her rendition of Shania Twain’s “Man, I feel like a Woman”.
2nd    Clare McGlinchey who sang the Simon and Garfunkel Anthem “Bridge over Troubled Water”
3rd    Valerie Hamilton who performed 2 songs, “The man with the child in his eyes” by Kate Bush and “Who Knows Where the Time Goes” (playing with guitar)

Thanks to the Judging Panel of Tom Frawley, John Bailie and Delia McCartan for their witty critique of the performances and congratulations to all contestants.

Finally, Chief Executive Nevin Ringland made a few closing remarks and staff enjoyed light refreshments to bring the day to a close.
